Helicobacter pylori and Gastric Microbiota
Oh Jung-Hwan

Abstract
After completing the human microbiome project, the microbiota has begun to make a mark. Among trillions of microbes in the human microbiome, microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract play significant roles in maintenaning hemostasis of the body. Most research have focused on the gut microbiota. The stomach, which secrets strong acid was regarded as a sterile environment from bacteria; however, the discovery of Helicobacter pylori has changed this paradigm. In this review, we examined the association between H. pylori and gastric microbiota. H. pylori might change the microbiota composition in the stomach as well as the intestine. Probiotics might improve H. pylori associated inflammation in the stomach. In addition, the results of adding probiotics to standard H. pylori therapy are summarized based on recent studies. Microbiota can be a useful tool for preventing or treating human diseases in the near future.
